A Love Letter to Buffalo
First, I’m thrilled to announce the addition of a new Buffalo-specific category here on Tight-Knit: A Love Letter to Buffalo. With this category, my goal is to highlight my love for this city and the people and places that make it great.
This brings me to Tom Barnett. Born and raised in Buffalo, NY, Tom is a quintessential entrepreneur with sophisticated taste, a gift of the gab, and a commitment to his family and the Buffalo community. True to form, Tom’s new badass store is more reminiscent of something you might see in NYC or LA, but it’s right here in our backyard.
Tom Barnett Features:
Bespoke: adjective. 1. ( of goods especially clothing) made to order. Custom made from scratch to your specifications.
Most noteworthy, Tom’s custom suits are handmade, meaning they are both hand-cut and hand-sewn. No sewing machines are used, just artisans down to the last stitch. Tom measures and hand-sketches the details on every order. His craft has been honed and his tailors are well-versed in the finished product expectations. Customers’ measurements, fabric choices, and specifications are filed and each piece is created with great attention to detail by a seasoned professional. Custom shirts and belts are also available, as well as a handsome selection of ties, socks, and pocket squares with more to come including Bespoke Outerwear and custom sweaters launching this fall. Tom Barnett has showroom spaces in LA, NYC, and DC. The flagship store, The Bungalow, is here in Buffalo, NY.
Even more, the fabric choices are of the highest caliber, including Loro Piana, Ermengildo Zegna, Scabal, and Dormeuil. It’s very exciting to watch the finished product come together after seeing and touching the fabric quality in person. Tom has a 28-year trusted relationship with many of these reputable companies and access to some of the best fabrics available.
Tom Barnett Sons
Tom Barnett “Sons” is his custom suit division, tailored to the new generation. It is still handmade, hand measured, but sewing machines are used, which enables a new generation to get the look and fit they want without the time and financial commitment of a Bespoke suit. See Cloogie in the pic below for a perfect example.
Tom has passed his talent on to his two sons and they not only understand the craft but also what the consumer style and demand is of the next generation. As a result, they bring their own take and style suggestions and apprenticeship-type knowledge to the brand.
Meet The Bungalow, Tom Barnett’s new home for his company. This impressive store is modern, hip, and fun. The great mix of traditional and modern styles, wonderful lighting, cool art, and stocked bar all make for a memorable, high-end experience. The space also has room for groups, entertaining, and effectively showcases his products. I was wowed.

” 28 years of history here in the 716, it is in-fact our deep-rooted partnerships, friendships and exceptional and steadfast client relationships that have made us an important component in their lives and successes, and it is rich and rewarding. This new chapter, perhaps defined and represented by our new Bungalow and the experiential feel, that now coincides more fully with the experience of creating wardrobes that we have always provided, has been driven by our community.
Yes, our Buffalo success and grassroots has directly led to our growth in other markets; NYC, DC and Beverly Hills, indeed driven by ex-pats, but I guess you could say that this new building, the statement I think it makes, the evolution of our business model and importantly the recognition and development of our brand, has been driven by a mutual Buffalo Love Letter. I was born, raised and educated here, raised my family here. Our community has supported and continues to encourage us and, in return, the populace has decades of countless individuals very well tailored for the specifics of their worlds, every day. There is a trust and respect that has developed and guides the process and the friendships. We have loved taking great care of Buffalo, it’s an honor, a joy and humbling that those are returned 10 fold. ”
